Across the globe, people are feeling the stress of COVID-19. With this widespread pandemic, we are experiencing things that many of us have never seen before on this level, such as lockdowns, job loss, and widespread health concerns. Understandably, the many unknowns of this global pandemic, paired with social isolation, has left a lot of people feeling stressed, anxious, and depressed. While we can’t control what goes on in the world around us, we can do things that impact our reactions to it. Here are some tips to help you deal with the stress of COVID-19:
- During uncertain times such as these, it’s helpful to stick to a routine. Even if you’re working from home, you can still set a schedule as if you’re in the office. If you have kids, you can do the same for them by allotting time for school work, recreation, etc. A schedule and a regular routine will help to bring a sense of normalcy to an uncertain time.
- With this said, don’t feel that you have to stick to this routine day in and day out. Sometimes, you will need a break. If it’s a beautiful day outside, maybe you decide you’d rather go for a walk than write that memo right this minute, and that’s okay.
- Keep in touch with friends and family. Just because you can’t physically go to see them, doesn’t mean that you can video chat to say hello. You can even go a more traditional route and send them a letter; who doesn’t love getting mail?!
- Find a healthy way to release your stress, whether that’s exercise, meditation, reading, etc. Use these as outlets to get your mind off of the stress that COVID-19 has brought into our lives.
During these times, also remember that we are here to help you navigate these murky waters. Give us a call today at Shenandoah Psychiatric Medicine in Augusta County, VA.
